Prescription Collection Service at Imaan Healthcare

Secure and straightforward Prescription Collection Service for you!

Managing medicines should be straightforward. With most NHS prescriptions now issued electronically, pharmacies play a central role in ensuring prescriptions are received, prepared, and supplied safely.

The Prescription Collection Service at Imaan Healthcare allows you to nominate one of our pharmacies to receive your NHS prescriptions directly, manage repeat prescriptions, and support collection by carers or family members, in line with NHS and GPhC guidance.

You can nominate us in person, through your GP surgery, or using the NHS App.

What Is a Prescription Collection Service?

A prescription collection service enables a pharmacy to receive your prescription directly from your GP or prescriber, prepare your medicines, and make them available for collection.

Prescriptions may be received:

  • Electronically via the NHS Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)
  • As a paper prescription where required

This service helps reduce unnecessary visits to GP surgeries and supports timely access to medicines.

Repeat Prescription Support

For patients on regular medication, we can support by:

  • Aligning repeat prescription dates
  • Providing clear collection schedules
  • Offering monitored dosage systems where clinically appropriate
  • Reminding you when repeats are due

This helps reduce missed doses and delays in treatment.

How Long Are Prescriptions Held?

Once dispensed, prescriptions are generally held for a limited period, often 7–14 days, depending on the medicine and branch policy.

High-cost or short-dated medicines may be returned sooner. If you are delayed, contact the pharmacy so arrangements can be discussed.

Undispensed electronic prescriptions remain valid on the NHS system until dispensed or expired (standard validity is up to 6 months in England, with exceptions for certain medicines).

What Does It Mean to Collect a Prescription?

Collecting a prescription means receiving the medicines that have been authorised by a qualified prescriber, following professional checks by the pharmacy team to ensure accuracy and safety.

What Is a Prescription in Pharmacy Practice?

A prescription is a legal instruction issued by an authorised prescriber, such as a GP, nurse prescriber, or pharmacist prescriber. It specifies:

  • The medicine to be supplied
  • The dose and quantity
  • The named patient

Pharmacies are responsible for dispensing prescriptions in accordance with NHS and regulatory standards.

How to Collect a Prescription: Step by Step

  • 1. Nominate a pharmacy

Tell your GP or use the NHS App to nominate Imaan Healthcare as your pharmacy.

  • 2. Prescription issued

Your GP sends the prescription electronically (EPS) or provides a paper prescription if required.

  • 3. Dispensing process

Our pharmacy team prepares your medicines and completes clinical and accuracy checks.

  • 4. Notification

You may be contacted when your prescription is ready for collection, depending on the branch systems.

  • 5. Collection

Attend the pharmacy with your name and address. Identification may be required for specific medicines.

If you need assistance at any stage, our team will guide you through the process.

Can I Collect My Prescription from Any Pharmacy in the UK?

This depends on the type of prescription:

  • Electronic Prescriptions (EPS)

If you have nominated a pharmacy, your prescription will be sent directly to that pharmacy. If needed, a prescription token can allow dispensing at another EPS-enabled pharmacy in England.
Systems differ in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

  • Paper Prescriptions

Paper prescriptions can usually be taken to any community pharmacy in England, unless specific restrictions apply.
If you are unsure, our pharmacy team can advise based on your prescription type.

Can Someone Else Collect My Prescription?

Yes. Another person may collect your prescription on your behalf, such as a family member, carer, or friend.

They will usually need:

  • Your full name and address
  • The prescription token or collection slip (if issued)
  • Identification in some instances, particularly for controlled medicines

This process follows the same national guidance used across all UK community pharmacies.

Electronic Prescriptions and Repeat Ordering

For long-term or regular medicines, prescriptions can be managed electronically.

You can:

  • Order repeat prescriptions using the NHS App or GP systems
  • Nominate Imaan Healthcare to receive prescriptions directly
