Blood Pressure Testing at Imaan Health Care

Information and What to Expect

High blood pressure, also called hypertension, often has no symptoms. Many adults in the UK are unaware of their levels, which can increase the risk of heart attacks, strokes, kidney problems, and other health issues.

Blood pressure testing helps identify elevated or low readings, supports safe management, and allows monitoring over time.

Important Checks

  • Tell a clinician if you are pregnant, over 40, overweight, diabetic, or have a family history of high blood pressure.

  • Let the clinician know about any medicines that affect blood pressure.

Avoid caffeine, smoking, or vigorous exercise at least 30 minutes before the test for accurate results.

When to Speak to a GP or NHS 111

Seek urgent advice if:

  • Systolic reading is above 180 mmHg

  • Diastolic reading is above 110 mmHg

  • You feel faint, dizzy, or breathless.

  • You have a pregnancy-related monitoring requirement.s

  • You are unsure about the medication or previous results.

Clinicians can guide you on the correct NHS pathway.

Blood Pressure Testing: The Basics

What it is

A blood pressure test measures the force of blood against the walls of your arteries. Results are shown as two numbers:

  • Systolic pressure – pressure when the heart beats
  • Diastolic pressure – pressure when the heart rests between beats

Readings are measured in mmHg and compared with standard UK guidelines.
